|MK3 THE MOVIE!!!!
Co-Writer: Drew McWeeny (confirmed)
Johnny Cage: Linden Ashby (confirmed)
Rayden: Christopher Lambert (confirmed)
Scorpion: Chris Casamassa (confirmed)
Fact (9-26-2004): Name of the film will be 'Devastation'.
Fact (9-26-2004): A plot has yet to be released.
Rumor (9-26-2004): Universal will be the distributor.
Rumor (9-26-2004): Filming for MK3 begins late October, early Novemberish in Australia and China.
Fact (9-26-2004): Chris Lambert, Linden Ashby, and Chris Cassmassa are all returning.
Rumor (9-26-2004): Russell Mulcahy will direct.
Pre-September 2004 (These are old, and are NOT up-to-date. Take with a grain of salt.):
Fact: There are a few scripts that have been written.
False Rumor: Paul W.S. Anderson most likely direct the film.
Fact: Christopher Lambert and Linden Ashby are returning
Fact: Rey-Phillip Santos said he auditioned, but didn't get the role.
Fact: Cung Le auditioned a long while ago. Somewhere in 2002.
Fact: Red Williams' site announced an MK-3, but the site is down.
Fact: Williams' site reported Lambert's return.
Fact: Linden Ashby said he read a script and said it was 'good.' Also mentioned that they're in legal roundabouts
Fact: Stacey Dash said she will play 'a character named Tanya' and she'll be doing lots of fighting in an interview August of 2002
Rumor: Quan Chi will be the main villain (confirmed at mortalkombat.com)
Fact: Johnny Cage will be in the next movie.
Fact: Robin Shou was quoted to say "I am the chosen one," when asked about MK3.
Fact: Kung Lao (a worker at TH) was at the now defunct mortalkombat.com forums answering questions about the movie. He implied that the movie will not be called DOMINATION, but it will be called DEVASTATION.
Fact: KungLao also said Liu Kang would NOT BE THE ONE TO DIE.
Fact: Lao also mentioned that Blind Kenshi will be in the movie (so the story will revolve around MK:DA?)
Rumor: Frost will be in it; the MKDA team and Threshold both helped create that character.
Rumor: Movie will be called 'Domination'
Rumor: The main plot revolves around Sub-Zero
Rumor: Another plot rumor involved Rayden resurrecting Johnny Cage to help the Earth warriors defeat the deadly alliance, Quan Chi and Shang Tsung.
Rumor: Liu Kang will die (like what happened in the MK:DA game)
Rumor: Shooting supposedly started in November.
Rumor: Christopher Lambert will return as Rayden.
Other Interesting Information
*Robin Shou, Liu Kang of both MK films, has been busy promoting his independent film, Red Trousers, in North America, Honk Kong, and Hawaii. So if they have been filming the past few months, he wasn't with them.
*Linden Ashby was recently casted as a short-term character for the Soap Opera The Young and the Restless.
*Threshold is also working on a Duke Nukem movie which, coincidentally, has also been at an apparent stand-still for two years.
*New Line and Threshold have supposedly been in a fight over the Mortal Kombat license for the past few years. The cheese known as Mortal Kombat: Annihilation was blamed on New Line. So what Threshold basically did was wait until their (New Line) rights to the license expired. So now Threshold has full rights to the MK license (this must be why various rumored cast members were asked about the progress of MK3, most said "We're just waiting now." So in other words: Threshold has complete control now.
*(1-25-2004) Drew McWeeny commented that MK3 has been through tons of name changes, and that simply MK3 was always the working title. He said that he doesn't think they still have an official name for it. Another thing that was brought up was that MK3 was a Threshold priority BEFORE MK:DA was released, so I'd imagine with its popularity they will release the movie.
*(2-2-2004) In an interview, Paul W.S. Anderson (director of the first MK movie) was asked if he was interested in directing the third film. He said that while he enjoyed doing the first film, he would rather do other projects. Thanks to Jason Rainwater for the heads up.
*(2-2-2004) Sorry for the late posting on this guys-- In around June 2003 mortalkombat.com removed its message board and replaced it with this message:
Mortal Kombat fans, while we are making preparations for the next MK movie, we are happy to offer you the ability to get your thoughts directly to the producers of the film. We are replacing this message board with an email box for you to contact the producers directly. email your desires for the movie to: producer1@Mortalkombat.com We will read the messages, but because we are busy with the film, we may not respond directly. Please don't send any fanfic or spec scripts as they will be deleted and not read. Share with us who you would like to see in the next project, who you wouldn't like to see, and who your favorites are! All correspondence becomes the property of Threshold Entertainment.

|NIN's Pretty Hate Machine To Be Re-released, Trent Reznor Unhappy
Trent Reznor says he's happy Pretty Hate Machine is being re-released, but he's not helping package it because Rykodisc won't pay him enough.
Nine Inch Nails
Trent Reznor may have released a successful comeback album and sold out most of the dates on two tours this year, but not everything is coming up roses for the Nine Inch Nails frontman. The re-release of his classic debut, Pretty Hate Machine, isn't up to snuff and his drummer has permanently left the band due to health problems.
Pretty Hate Machine has long been out of print since it's release in 1989 because of financial troubles with the band's old label, TVT Records. Then Rykodisc bought the rights off TVT and the label approached Reznor to create a deluxe edition of the reissue. However, Reznor recently told the Toronto Sun Ryko isn't satisfying him as far as money goes.
"I'll do the extra songs. I'll redo the packaging. Everything. But I'm not willing to do it for free," he says. "They're not willing to pay, so they put out whatever they put out. That's that."
The reissue of Pretty Hate Machine is set to hit shelves on November 22 and won't have any extras.
Meanwhile, Nine Inch Nails have been steadily touring in support of their new album, With Teeth. While in the midst of their tour with Queens of the Stone Age and Death From Above 1979, drummer Jerome Dillon experienced heart problems while performing on stage. This lead to the cancellation of several dates and finding a replacement drummer, Alex Carapetis. However, Dillon has now announced he will be permanently leaving the band.
Despite Reznor's recent misfortunes, he says he's pleased with the good response he's been getting with NIN's recent tour and he likes touring with Toronto's Death From Above 1979. Although DFA 1979 had to postpone the recording of their new record in order to join the tour, Reznor says, "I'm proud to have them on the bill."
We told you last week that the tour's Toronto stop might be dry due to an alcohol licence problem at the Air Canada Centre. On the weekend, the Toronto Sun confirmed that the show would indeed fall under the dates of the ban.
NIN/QOTSA/DFA 1979 Canadian dates:
November 10 Toronto, ON @ Air Canada Centre
November 11 Montreal, QC @ Centre Bell Centre
November 14 Winnipeg, MB @ MTS Centre
November 16 Edmonton, AB @ Rexall Place
November 17 Calgary, AB @ Pengrowth Saddledome

|Dave Chappelle Is Back Onstage
As hopes for a third season of "Chappelle's Show" fade into the distance, fans of Dave Chappelle's comedy can take heart in a bit of good news: Dave's back onstage.
It's not the set of his Comedy Central show, but Chappelle is in the midst
of a U.S. tour that kicked off with a five-night stand at the Funny Bone in Newport, Kentucky, last week that found the comedian playing two shows a night to packed houses.
With the exception of two surprise sets at comedy clubs in Los Angeles earlier this summer, Chappelle has been mostly off the grid since unexpectedly halting production on his popular sketch-comedy show and taking off for a "spiritual retreat" in South Africa in May (see "Dave Chappelle Reportedly In Mental Health Facility"). The 10 sold-out shows at the 325-seat Newport venue — which is less than 45 minutes from his 65-acre farm near Yellow Springs, Ohio — are the start of a tour that will include a stand at the Pittsburgh Improv in Pittsburgh from Thursday to Saturday.
In one of his first interviews since returning from South Africa, Chappelle told The Cincinnati Enquirer that one of the hardest parts about his still-unexplained departure from the show — which he's been referencing in his set — is the rampant tabloid speculation about him being on drugs or having a breakdown. "It was a little weird," Chappelle told the Enquirer. "It felt like some of the stuff [in the media] was real tabloid, like raw speculation. It was like stuff I would normally buy and believe. ... I just took it as a learning experience. It was like becoming a public person and learning all the responsibility that comes with that."
Chappelle opened up a bit about the pressure he felt to follow up the wildly popular first two seasons of the show, saying it's "stuff that's not in the brochure. Stuff that you have to wrap your mind around." Even though he's been doing stand-up for more than 15 years, the intense scrutiny he experienced while working on the third season was too much.
"A lot of people didn't understand when I did it, but sometimes in your life it just doesn't matter," Chappelle said about leaving the show. "And as far as I'm concerned, it just doesn't matter. It was about taking myself out of a situation I wasn't cool with. ... These are the kind of circumstances that you have to be there to understand. A lot of people will say what they'd do, but very few people get into these positions. I care about the work I do. But I'm not going to say that money's not an issue. This is the only job I've had since I was 14. My wife asked me once if I weren't a comedian what I would do. I couldn't answer the question. I never imagined doing anything else. Maybe until six months ago, anyway," he laughed.
Chappelle said he still gets a charge from standing up in front of an audience and seeing that "wall of people smiling at you," which is something most people will never experience. But, somehow, the roller coaster of the past year has changed his comedic voice, even if he's not exactly sure how. "The technique will be there, but the content is changing," he said. "I don't want to say how it's changing, but I can feel it, which is always great, kind of exciting for the comedian."
The comedian also sang the praises of Ohio, explaining why he's rejected living in New York or Los Angeles full-time in favor of staying near Antioch College, where his father taught music. "I love Ohio. ... Being famous is great, it's not like bad or horrible or anything," he said. "But it has nothing to do with who you actually are. And that's a real important lesson to learn, because I'm telling you, this can be overwhelming. So I like Ohio because it reminds me of that. It's hard to get comfortable, but I've managed to get comfortable. I still travel all the time, but it's still nice to have 65 acres to just chill out. And the idea is it'll keep you balanced."
As for what's next for him, Chappelle still doesn't have any answers beyond "I don't know."
Chappelle's movie "Dave Chappelle's Block Party" is set to premiere at the Toronto Film Festival on Monday night (September 12), according to his spokesperson. The stand-up/concert/documentary was directed by Michel Gondry ("Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind") and features a reunion performance by the Fugees (see "Fugees — Yes, Even Lauryn — Reunite For Dave Chappelle's Block Party").
Chappelle stand-up dates, according to his spokesperson:
